The company operates through three segments: Scientific and Measuring Instruments Business, Industrial Equipment Business, and the Medical Equipment Business. It provides transmission electron microscopes; scanning electron microscopes; nuclear resonance and mass spectrometer; x-ray fluorescence spectrometer; electron diffractometer; ion beam application equipment, including specimen preparation equipment and multibeam systems; instruments for microarea and surface analysis, such as electron probe micro analyzers, auger microprobes, and photoelectron spectrometers; magnetic resonance equipment, such as nuclear magnetic resonance and electron spin resonance spectrometers; electron beam lithography systems; electron microscope for semiconductors; and clinical chemistry analyzers. The company also offers industrial equipment for thin-film formation and material processing, including thin film formation equipment and material processing equipment. In addition, it offers clinical chemistry analyzers; and engages in the processing, maintenance, and services of related products and parts, as well as procurement and sales of peripherals. The company was formerly known as Japan Electron Optics Laboratory Co., Ltd. and changed its name to JEOL Ltd. in 1961. JEOL Ltd. was incorporated in 1949 and is headquartered in Akishima, Japan.
